The Ride or Die Tribe

You can ride a horse in the Hollywood Hills. Clack hooves into the dusty hiking trails and look out over Los Angeles toward the sea. Climb a narrow path that follows an old exposed pipe covered in tags scribbled by local gang members and wannabes, and you can see all of the Valley on a clear day.

A horse can heal a broken body, the kind of body within which a soul cannot rest so instead it floats outside, a little bit above. In this state you are not safe, see you need a soul in a body to set boundaries. A bully will chase your soul out and take your body. And rape it and beat it. This is how abuse exists. A horse can draw a soul back home.

Eric from Sunset Ranch says horses are psychic. When you squeeze your heels in to go faster, it takes a few seconds for the nerves in a horse’s side to send the message to the horse’s brain. So why does a horse react the instant you make the squeeze? Eric explains that before a rider kicks they think and the horse reads the thought. Your brain becomes one with the horse, the horse’s legs become your own. Four hooves connecting you to solid mother earth and drawing your soul down home.

In beautiful Hollywood, Eric is an unofficial healer on horseback.
